News / Captain’s Report,MEMBERS will notice that a new Club Newsletter has been published and is available at the shop and the bar. Please take a copy and find out what is going on at the club. The Newsletter will be updated regularly. The main items will also be recorded in this part of the website. NEW FURNITURE The club is delighted to announce that the local company, Groundwater Lift Trucks, has agreed to be the club’s main sponsor over the next five years. This generous offer has enabled the club to purchase new furniture for the main bar and lounge areas. The furniture has been ordered and delivery is expected by the middle of September. New tables and chairs, in a lighter wood than the current dark furniture, will be arranged in the lounge in much the same way as at present, but arm chairs and lower coffee tables will be introduced at the dance-floor end of the lounge. This will enable members and visitors to relax more comfortably, while admiring the stunning views from the clubhouse. The best of the current furniture will be retained for use in the dining room. The club is very grateful indeed to Ivan and Kathleen Groundwater for their wonderful generosity. The new furniture will certainly improve the look of the clubhouse and make it a more comfortable place to eat, drink, relax and socialise. NEW SPONSORS Members will have seen the new sponsors’ board in the main lounge, listing a number of company names. These are all companies who have helped the club this season, either with straight cash sponsorships or with services in kind. In return, the companies have their names and contact details displayed on tees round the course and they have also been issued with cards, which enable them to book tee times for their staff or guests. This has been a good growth area for the club this year, bringing in valuable revenue, and we are very grateful to all the companies involved for their help. This is one area of activity we would like to grow in the future and if any members are interested in their company becoming a club sponsor, or if they know of a company who might be interested, please contact the club manager. NEW PARTNERSHIP Around 100 members attended the Special General Meeting on Monday, July 28, and voted overwhelmingly for the new partnership agreement with Aspire, the golf centre on the South Deeside Road, Aberdeen. Changes have been made to the Club Constitution to admit a new category of members, a Restricted Aspire Member. At the time of writing this, the ink is still wet on the agreement with Aspire and therefore we do not know how many new members will be joining us in this new category. They will have exactly the same rights and privileges of our current Restricted Members. We will be updating our Newsletter shortly to explain to members exactly what benefits they will enjoy from this new partnership. NEW STEWARDS I am delighted to tell members that our new Steward and Stewardess will be starting on Monday, August 11, some weeks earlier than previously announced. Richard and Doreen MacGillivray are from Dundee. They have a grown-up family of four and three grand-children, who all live in Dundee. They have not been involved with a golf club before, but they have extensive experience in the licensed trade, hotels and in the catering industry. Richard will be in charge in the kitchen with Doreen managing the club bar. A number of members have been involved in renovation work needed in the club’s house before Richard and Doreen move in and this is being carried out as quickly as possible. In this regard, the club is very grateful indeed to long-time member Duncan Ewing, who has done a wonderful job in re-decorating the house. VOLUNTEERS WANTED The club is also very grateful to a group of members who volunteered to help our green staff with the hollow coring of greens. This is the best time of year to do this work and growth is still strong and the newly-aerated greens should recover quickly and soon be back to their pristine best. Unfortunately, we ran into some serious problems with the coring machine so the four holes in the "field" -- 9, 10, 11 and 12 -- are being left until the middle of September, immediately after the 36-hole Open competition. For certain projects in the future, we will certainly be asking for volunteers again. I think all those who took part in the recent exercise enjoyed the experience and it has been hugely helpful to the green staff. It was particularly good to see four juniors involved, under the eagle-eye of Neil Irvine, who is both Junior Convener and Greens Convener. Harry Roulston Captain.
