Singles - Winner - Jim Lonie

The winter league finals eventually got played after been snowed off two weeks earlier.

In the singles competition Stuart Dempster led after the first round with 35 points leading by one from Steve McGhie, with defending champion Jim Lonie a further point behind. On Sunday Jim came storming through with an excellent 40 points with the help of a birdie, eagle burst at the 9th and 10th holes. Stuart's steady 36 points was only good enough for second place. Steve and George Forrester completed 3rd and 4th places.

Jim Lonie - 33, 40 - 73 points, Stuart Dempster - 35, 36 - 71 pts, Steve McGhie - 34, 33 - 67 pts, George Forrester - 28, 34 - 62 pts.

In the doubles handicap final there was a tie at the top after the first round between Alistair Duncan & Brian Hunter and Ron Gilmour & Bert Droy with a score of nett 58. The battle continued in the second round with both teams holding the lead at some stage. In the end the match finished all square and both teams agreed to share the trophy.

Alistair Duncan & Brian Hunter , Bert Droy & Ron gilmour - 58, 60 - 118, Stewart Allsop & Brian Lawson - 63, 60, Tom simpson & Alister Barnett - 64, 59 - 123.

In the scratch doubles final Gordon Adamson and Glen Melvin opened up a slender lead in the first round with a fine 63 to Harry Roulston & Neil Irvine's 64. Ian Wood and Kenny Duncan had a 70. After 3 holes of the second round Gordon and Glen opened up a 3 stroke lead. With the help of birdies at the 3rd, 7th and 8th holes Harry and Neil were back on level terms and went one ahead with Harry's birdie at the 15th hole. Gordon hit back with a birdie at the 16th hole. With birdies from both teams at the final hole the match also finished all square and they also agreed to share the trophy.

Neil Irvine & Harry Roulston - 64, 60, Gordon Adamson & Glen Melvin - 63, 61 - 124, Ian Wood & Kenny Duncan - 70, 67 - 137.

Cowie Cup - the first major of the season ended in a tie between Gordon Adamson (63 + 63) and vice captain Mike Rendall (65 + 61). Rules state that there should be an 18 hole playoff. Gordon overcame Mike in the playoff.

Tri am - winners were Harry Roulston, Gordon Adamson and Neil Irvine with a score of 125. This was 4 strokes better than Terry Middleton, John Findlay and Alex Geddes.

9 hole Mid Summer Scramble - a team of four juniors came out on top in this very popular Friday evening competition - Scott Murray, Connor Douglas, Ross McAllan and Josh Halliday with 30.2 pts. Mark Greig, Scott Crabb, John Starrs and Colin Black were 2nd with 31pts.

Handicap Trophy - the competition was very close after two rounds but an excellent nett 67 in difficult conditions allowed Gary Daun to open up a 3 stroke lead. In the final round he raced to the turn in 34 (2 over par) and he was able to coast home in 39 to comfortably win the trophy by 9 strokes from Neil Irvine. Gary's nett score was 257 (62, 70, 67, 58).

J M Adamson Greensomes - new pairing of club champion Bruce Ferguson and Craig McKechnie combined well to win the competition with a nett 60. This was 1.5 strokes better than Kevin Boyne and Kenny Gordon.

Cancer Care Stableford - there was a three way tie at the top between Joe Meanen, Sandy Wood and George Forrester on 41 pts with Joe coming out on top thanks to a better inward half.

Club Championship

Bruce Ferguson successfully defended his title after a close battle with Chris Brown in the final round. He also won the Gulley Cup for the best score on the gulley holes over the four rounds of the championship.

1st - Bruce Ferguson - 266 (67, 67, 66, 66)

2nd - Chris Brown - 270 (67, 66, 67, 70)

3rd - Craig Irvine - 274 (65, 71, 68, 70)

4th - Keith Douglas, 5th - Neil Irvine, 6th Steve Guzik, 8th - Ross McAllan, 9th - Chris Taylor.

Men's Open

The men's open eventually got played after originally been rained off on 13th July. A healthy 114 players took part.

Results - scratch - 67 - Grant Robb(bih), Neil Irvine, 69 - Kevin Riddell.

Section 0 - 11 - 62 - D Harold(10) (Brechin), 63 - S Donald(11) (Clevhill), Harry Roulston(7).

Section 12 - 18 - 60 - Ewan Campbell(17), 61 - S Kranzke(18)(Brechin), 62 - Jacek Nowak(14).

Section 19 - 28 - 60 - Brian Reid(25), 65 - Brian Hardstaff(21), 67 - John Neal(19).

RNLI winner was Steve McGhie who beat Richard Hampson on countback.

Wednesday Medal Final - winner was Brian Hardstaff with a nett score of 61.Runner up was Ken Green two strokes behind.

McNab Trophy - (bogey comp) - winner was John Stephen finishing 3 up on the course. Four players finished 2 up on the course - Richard Tindall, Gary Herd, Chris Taylor and Donald Mitchell.

Innes Medal Final - winner was Captain Sandy Walker with a nett score of 65.

Captain Cup winner was Neil Irvine with a scratch score of 68

D F Leslie scratch matchplay competition - Neil Irvine won for the 11th time beating Stuart Dempster in the final.

Willie Watt handicap matchplay competition - Alan Officer beat Stuart Wood in the 36 hole final.

J M Low strokeplay final - David Cruickshank beat Michael Wood in the final.

Royal Bank doubles competition - Paul Lindeman and Mike Gaskin beat Graeme Nicol and Richard Gordon in the final.

Freeland Family Foursomes - James and Luis Arandia beat Liam and Ricky Davidson in the final by 1 hole.

Charlie Nicol Trophy - for the four best scratch scores over the 6 Innes Medal competitions - Neil Irvine.

Annual Prizegiving Evening 2010

Pictured above are some of the prizewinners for this year with club champion, Bruce Ferguson sitting in the centre. Entertainment for the evening was Paul Reid, a very talented sports impressionist who has starred in television's Only an Excuse and Off the Ball.

Club Championship

This year's championship was played in four days of sunshine with the addition of strong winds on the second and fourth rounds. It was a close affair after the first round when 2003 champion Bruce Ferguson held a one stroke lead from former senior champion Harry Roulston with an excellent 65. From then on it turned into a one man show with Bruce streaking ahead with rounds of 65, 66 and 72 to win comfortably by 10 strokes from Paul Lindeman.

In conjunction with the championship there was also the Gully Cup to play for. The winner was the golfer with the best scores at the three gulley holes over the four rounds. This year's winner was Neil Irvine with a score of 40. He won on countback from Paul Lindeman as he also had a score of 40.

D F Leslie Trophy

The main scratch matchplay competition was played between Club Champion Bruce Ferguson and Stuart Dempster. This went to extra holes and Bruce was successful at the 19th hole.

W Watt Matchplay

Stuart Dempster continued his good form by reaching the 36 hole final against Jim Hepburn. After 18 holes Stuart held a narrow 1 hole lead. In the second round Stuart played excellent golf to eventually overcome Jim by 4 & 3. This compensated for his defeat in the D F Leslie competition.

J M Low

Stuart Paul and George Reid went head to head in the 18 hole strokeplay final. After a tough battle Stuart overcame George by one stroke.

Innes Medal Final

Stephen Winstanley with a nett 63 won the Innes Medal Final. Michael Wood was runner up with a nett 64. In conjunction with the Final the Captain's Cup was also played for - this is for the scratch qualifiers from the medals over the season. Neil Irvine was successful after a play off with Michael Wood.

Barlow Cup

With eight scores of 40 points or more Tom Simpson came out on top with an excellent 44 points. Jim Lonie, with the help of a hole in one at the 8th hole finished runner up with 42 points.

Wednesday Medal Final

The Wednesday Medal Final eventually got played after initially being rained off and the winner was Craig McKechnie with a nett score of 63. Eric Innes was second with a nett 64.

Captain's Prize

Early bird Stuart Dempster set a target of 40 points that no one else was able to match. There were 4 players who finished on 39pts - Kevin Boyne, Gary Brown, Craig Irvine and Joe Meanen. Stuart also had the longest drive at the 9th hole. Derek Freeland was nearest the line at the 1st hole and Craig Irvine was nearest the pin at the last hole.

Cowie Cup

The first major of the season ended up being a very keenly contested affair. Iain Taylor with nett scores of 65 and 63 ended up winning by 2 strokes from Ken Green, Mike Rendall and Tom Hyder.

McNab Trophy

There was a tie for this trophy with Derek Seery and Gordon Lamont tying on +3. However Derek takes the trophy on countback with a better inward half.

Handicap Trophy

The handicap trophy was reduced to 3 rounds due to the 2nd round being abandoned due to heavy rain. After 2 rounds Iain Taylor opened up a 4 stroke lead with a fine nett 60. He was able to maintain this margin in the final round with a nett 61. This allowed him to sit the Handicap Trophy along side the Cowie Cup he won earlier in the season.

Iain Taylor(4) - 180 (59, 60, 61), Paul Lindeman(4) - 184(61, 63, 60), Scott Murray(7) - 185(64, 63, 58) , Chris Brown(5) - 185(59, 67, 59).

J M Adamson Greensomes

After an excellent nett 57 Michael Pyper and Steve Birss topped the leaderboard off a combined handicap of 19. They beat Raymond Penny and J Neal by one stroke.

Freeland Family Foursomes

Neill and Scott Murray were up against Neil and Craig Irvine in the foursomes final. The Irvines were always ahead until the Murrays drew level after the 12th hole. The Murrays then went on to win the 13th, 15th and 17th holes against a loss at the 14th hole to win by 2 & 1.

Petrolite Mixed Foursomes Final

The final was competed by Fiona and Gordon Lamont against Ron and Evelyn Gilmour. On this occasion Fiona and Gordon were successful winning by 3 & 2.

Handicap Order of Merit

With only one medal still to play Neil Irvine and Stuart Dempster were tied at the top of the points table. It was decided the the one with the best nett score in the last medal would take the order of merit trophy. On this occasion Neil's nett 66 just beat Stuart by one stroke.

Centenary Trophy

On a very windy day with the standard scratch being a non counting 68 Greens Convener, Kenny Duncan, found the greens to his liking and comfortably won the trophy with a fine nett 63, beating runner up Ian Mackay into second place by 4 strokes.

Winter League 2009 - 2010

The winter league scratch and handicap competitions have now been completed and the following are the results in each section (over two rounds):-

Scratch doubles - Neil Irvine/HarryRoulston - 121 (64, 57), Iain Taylor/Stuart Soutar -135 (67, 68), Gordon Adamson/ Glennie Melvin - 137 (73, 64), Brian Lawson / Stewart Allsop - 140 (70, 70).
